Creepy-Crawly Chronicles Children’s Story Competition

Saturday 7 December 2019 - Monday 8 March 2020

From ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘Charlotte’s Web’ to 'Spiderman’, insects have inspired countless much-loved stories and comics. Enter your ideas into our story competition to help us create the next great creepy-crawly chronicle! Dual language entries, and entries from schools, are all welcomed.

Falling in Love with Insects

Thursday 13 February, 6-9 pm

Catch the bug and share the love. Meet conservationists, scientists and artists passionate about protecting insects and their environments.

Learning to Love Bugs 

Tuesday 18 February

Bringing kids and their adults together to conquer their fears of bugs and mini-beasts! This session will help us understand where our fears come from, and learn a little bit more about the amazing world of bugs and their role in our environment. 

The session is designed for children and adults who have anxiety, fears or phobias of insects, bugs and mini-beasts, and will be facilitated by a trained therapist. No live animals or pictures of bugs will be used in the session. 

Session aimed at 7-15 year olds and their adults. 

 

 

Magnificent Minibeasts

Tuesday 18, Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 February 2020, 2-4pm

Enjoy creative half term fun about inspiring insects, scintillating spiders and captivating creepy crawlies … and get last-minute inspiration for your entry to our Creepy-Crawly Chronicles Story Competition. Check our website closer to the time for special guests and activities.

Insects in Harmony

Thursday 26 March, 6-9 pm

An evening to listen and explore why insects are key to the balance of nature.  Be the first to hear the premiere of Beauty and the Beasts, created by the Adelphi Contemporary Music Group. 

 

Deep cuts: Spiderphobia 

Friday 27 March 10am-1pm

Fears and phobias around spiders can be really debilitating, and can have a real impact on how we navigate our lives. This course offers focused support for people experiencing phobias that impact on their lives. Run by a trained therapist and supported by museum staff.

Celebrating World Book Night, come dressed as your favourite bug, featured in your favourite story or invent your very own.

City Nature Challenge 2020: Greater Manchester

Cities around the world will be competing to see who has the most wildlife. Become a nature detective and help find the wildlife living in our city.

 

Drawing From Nature: Primary School Art and Science

Manchester Museum and the Whitworth have teamed up in this joint experience for primary schools. Enjoy a playful, hands-on art workshop at the Whitworth then put your new scientific drawing skills into practice with the Museum’s natural history collections, including the beautiful (or beastly?) insects.
